At the Montessori Academy of Virginia, each day is a thoughtfully curated journey of discovery, creativity, and personal growth. The day begins with heartfelt greetings! Through our convenient vehicle drop-off line, cheerful staff members welcome each child with warm smiles and guiding hands, ensuring a calm and confident start to the day.
Classroom sessions begin promptly at 8:30 a.m., opening with group discussions or community gatherings that set a thoughtful tone for the day. Following this, students immerse themselves in individualized Montessori work period selecting activities that align with their interests and developmental stage.
Throughout the morning, teachers move with grace and intention, offering quiet support, leading small group lessons, or working one-on-one with students. Each lesson is introduced simply and sequentially, allowing time for deep practice, internalization, and mastery before progressing to more complex concepts. Within the mixed-age classroom environment, collaboration and peer learning occur naturally, fostering empathy, leadership, and mutual respect.
Every age group enjoys daily outside recess (weather permitting), a refreshing lunch break, and a restful naptime for our younger learners (excludes grade-level students). Our afternoon sessions bring another round of engaging group discussions and lessons, followed by students practicing the individual Montessori activities introduced that morning.
The afternoons are enriched with visits to our specialty learning spaces, with exciting visits to the STEM room, culinary room, gym, indoor garden, art studio, and music room, keeping the children stimulated and engaged until their dismissal at 3:00 p.m.
Beyond academics, our students enjoy abundant opportunities for social connection throughout the day—during play, shared meals, and extracurricular activities. This balance of structure and freedom keeps children engaged, curious, and eager to explore the world around them.
