The Montessori Academy of Virginia (MAV) is a state-licensed school affiliated with the International Montessori Society and accredited by the Better Business Bureau. We are proud to be the only Montessori school in Hampton Roads to offer a hands-on enrichment program at Montessori Acres, our private farmstead and gardens.

Founded in 1996, MAV was created in response to a growing need for authentic Montessori education in Hampton Roads. What began with three classrooms has grown into a vibrant school community serving children from 16 months through 5th Grade across three campuses in Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, and Suffolk. Today, more than 400 children are part of the MAV community.

Our campuses offer spacious, purpose-built facilities of more than 10,000 square feet on more than an acre of land, providing room for children to learn, work, play, and connect with the natural world.

While MAV has grown over the years, our purpose has remained constant: to know each child, believe in their potential, and provide an environment where they can flourish.

Each campus has its own character and sense of community, united by the same Montessori philosophy and a shared commitment to providing children with an authentic Montessori experience.
We also place a high priority on student safety and family peace of mind. Our campuses feature thoughtful security measures, including password-protected keypad entry and an automated check-in/check-out system.
