Founded in 1996, The Montessori Academy of Virginia (MAV) was established to fulfill the growing demand for an authentic Montessori experience in the Hampton Roads region. What began with just three classrooms in a modest rented space, has blossomed into a network of purpose-built campuses in Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, and Suffolk, thanks to the unwavering and steadfast support of our families and community.
Today, we proudly offer a genuine, authentic Montessori education that supports and nurtures early childhood development for children aged 16 months through 5th Grade. As the largest Montessori institution in the region, our Academy now educates more than 400 students across three thriving campuses.
Our state-of-the-art facilities (each over 10,000 square feet and situated on more than an acre), are thoughtfully designed to embody the core principles of the Montessori method.
Features include spacious classrooms equipped with private bathrooms, child-friendly libraries, cozy science nooks, gymnasiums, large lunchrooms, STEM rooms, and attractive garden areas where children can plant and explore nature. Our commitment to nature-based education extends beyond the classroom through the Montessori Acres Farm School; an immersive learning environment that deepens children’s connection with the natural world. This embodies a dynamic creative learning environment that inspires curiosity and independence.
We also prioritize student safety with innovative security systems, including password-protected keypad entry and an automated check-in/checkout system, ensuring peace of mind for families.
